Nearly a generation ago, our parents and undergrads at UIC were wearing fashion of a questionable nature. In the late 1980s, both men and women channeled their inner rockers like the guys from the group Poison and wore acid-wash jeans, large ripped jeans that were a little loose on the body.

Over the last 20 years, UIC has undergone massive changes. The campus expanded southward, dormitories have been built and the university itself has become well known as a first-class research institution.

Clear skies are drawing the Astronomy Club to the quad every Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. for a viewing of sun spots.

Every eleven years the sun goes through a new cycle of sun spots, which are storms of magnetic activity cooler than the rest of the star. January began the new cycle of sun spots allowing the Astronomy Club to get a glimpse through their telescope in visible light.

Janet Rawls enrolled in the business administration program in 1977; on May 16 she will graduate.

During that nearly 31-year span, the 60-year-old Chicago native has seen both her daughter and her younger sister graduate from Roosevelt before her.

Appearing on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" scheduled to air Tuesday, Walters shares details of her relationship with Brooke that lasted several years in the 1970s, according to a transcript of the show provided to The Associated Press.
